Guwahati: There has been a significant improvement in the flood situation in Assam in the past 24 hours, as the number of flood-affected persons has come down drastically to 2,316. This is a marked improvement over Wednesday when 11,322 persons were affected.

At the moment, only 5 villages across the 2 districts of Lakhimpur and Goalpara are still affected. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its daily bulletin said that an embankment has been breached in Karimganj. Roads in Karimganj, Barpeta, and Cachar have been damaged.

Additionally, the Seajuli road to Kadam Bagan Gaon connecting bamboo bridge washed away and another bamboo bridge has been partially damaged by the Kakoi river due to heavy rain under the Kadam revenue circle.

In Dibrugarh, 510 people are still suffering in the aftermath of erosion caused by floods and 117 people are taking shelter in a relief camp in Chabua. A grim situation continues to pervade at Neamatighat where the river Brahmaputra still continues to flow above the danger level. No casualties have been reported in the past 24 hours. Additionally, not a single animal -- big, small, or poultry -- is affected due to floods at the moment.
