Dispur: In a bid to compensate for the losses incurred by the common people of the state during the floods, a financial assistance programme was held at CMO, Janata Bhawan, Dispur.

Further, the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced that the state government will grant Rs. 199.11 crores for the restoration of the damaged houses caused by the recent bitter floods in the state.

The Chief Minister of Assam tweeted that the state government has launched Rehabilitation Grant (RG) fund through Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) of financial assistance to the concerned families affected by the Assam floods this year. Not less than 199 people have lost their lives and around 88 lakh people were hit by the severe floods in the state since April 2022.

"There were around 309 flood-hit families whose homes had been washed away in the flood and that state government is willing to provide them with an amount of additional 1 lakh ", Dr Sarma added.

The Chief Minister stated that the Government of Assam has conducted a detailed survey of the loss that has been done to the houses. It has been found that around 2,43,048 houses in Assam have been completely destroyed in the state's 30 districts. The state government will grant the amount as compensation to the affected families through DBT.

Earlier in July 2022, Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma made an announcement that the state government would provide financial aid of Rs 1000 each to at least 1 lakh students, who underwent natural disaster in the recent floods, to provide relief through the CM's Relief Fund. Meanwhile, the administration of the state also decided to grant financial assistance of Rs. 3,800 to not less than 1,89,752 flood-hit households while coming back from relief camps.

The Education Department of the state also proffered additional textbooks as rehabilitation to the flood-affected student beneficiaries by August 15. The state government has also been implementing steps for rebuilding the destroyed infrastructure by September 20 of this year.
