Assam Floods: 49 Dead, 9 Persons Missing in Sivasagar Floods, So Far

Nazira recorded the highest death toll with 29 fatalities, followed by Sivasagar (10), Sonari (7), Demow (2) and Amguri (1).

SIVASAGAR: The devastating floods that have affected Sivasagar district since mid-July have claimed 49 human lives, while 9 persons are still reported missing, according to the latest cumulative flood report of the district administration covering the period from July 18 to August 7.

Among the worst-affected areas, Nazira revenue circle recorded the highest number of fatalities with 29 deaths, followed by Sivasagar revenue circle with 10 deaths, Sonari (part) with 7 deaths, Amguri revenue circle with 1 death, and Demow revenue circle with 2 deaths. Many of the fatalities were caused by drowning, while some deaths occurred after victims were trapped by floodwaters or succumbed to flood-related circumstances.

The report further states that 9 persons remain missing, including 2 from Sivasagar revenue circle and 7 from Nazira revenue circle. Search and rescue efforts have been continuing in the affected areas, with the administration and disaster response agencies closely monitoring the situation. The district administration has expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and has urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid entering floodwaters and strictly follow safety advisories issued by the authorities. Rescue and relief operations continue across the district to assist the affected population.
