BONGAIGAON: Due to continuous rainfall, large areas of Bongaigaon and Chirang districts have been affected by flood.

In Bongaigaon district, several areas like Majgaon, Bakholgaon, Salmara, Manikpur and Abhayapuri have been affected by flood. Railway colonies of New Bongaigaon, Dangtol, and Dolaigaon have been inundated. In Palpara, SDRF started rescue operations. There was waterlogging in the New Bongaigaon Railway Workshop also. A large number of villages throughout the district have been hit by flood. On Friday, a person named Biren Das was washed away by the flood water of Chekati River in Bongaigaon district. SDRF operation has been launched but his body has not been recovered as yet. Water is flowing over NH-31 at Boitamari in Bongaigaon district.

As per Bongaigaon district administration's record, total number of people affected by flood in the district is 800. Four relief camps have been opened and 77 persons evacuated.

Many villages in Chirang district have also been devastated by flood. A PWD road connecting Bhur Tinali and Bengtol Town of Chirang district was damaged at Uttar Dakhingaon village due to overflowing of irrigation canal. Due to this, paddy field covering an approximate area of 24 hectares was destroyed.
