BONGAIGAON: With heavy rainfall since the last three days in Chirang district, partial flood has started in different places of Chirang district.

Informing about the situation, an official said that a stretch of 400 metres (approx) of Aienodi Mathaori at village Madarpur under Bengtol Revenue Circle has been washed away due to incessant rain on Tuesday. A part of a road under Sidli revenue circle was washed away due to rain on Tuesday night.

"Water level on all rivers of the district is rising and has almost reached danger level," an official stated. Chirang Deputy Commissioner has asked the EE, PWD and EE, Water Resources department to assess the damages and to take immediate restoration measures.

People from several villages of the district such as Madarpur, Dababil and Nathurpur claimed that no work was done by the BTC administration last year for protection of these villages from flood and erosion. "That is why the whole area was waterlogged after three days of rain. We suffered last year and the leaders had assured us to take protective measures from flood and erosion soon. But they did nothing and hence, people of these areas will have to face heavy flood this year," the people lamented.
