Guwahati: Nagaon Police apprehended a former Principal of a Government-run higher secondary school in Assam's Nagaon district for allegedly misappropriating school funds on Saturday.

As per reports, the school funds was meant for the construction of classrooms.

The principal identified as Gopal Chandra Bora, had allegedly misappropriated school funds worth Rs 4, 64,000 while he was the Principal of Samaguri Higher Secondary School.

In this regard, police have registered a case (No 174/21) under section 409 of the IPC against Bora at Samaguri police station over the complaint filed by the current principal of the school named Pranab Jyoti Goswami.

Significantly, in the previous days also some schools principals have been arrested not only for misappropriating funds but also for indulging sexual assault of their students or taking bribe.

In one of those cases, a government school teacher was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Assam's Dhemaji district earlier on August 12.

The arrested teacher was identified as Dharmeshwar Saikia, headmaster of a primary school in Bhebeli.

According to reports, the incident took place at Bhebeli Gaon Village in Sissibargaon.

Meanwhile, locals alleged that Saikia took advantage of the darkness and raped the woman near his house while the victim's sister-in-law witnessed the incident and called for help.

Reacting to the alarm locals in the vicinity gathered and thrashed the accused headmaster and handed him over to Sissibargaon police.
