GOLAGHAT: Assam is a land of hospitality, where the society’s warmth and affection towards others have fascinated people from other states, said Professor Dr G Singaiah, Vice-Chancellor of Birangana Sati Sadhani State University. He was speaking as the chief guest at the 7th Foundation Day celebration of the Paschim Golaghat Xakha Xahitya Xabha branch of Axam Xahitya Xabha on Sunday at Golaghat.

Dr Singaiah said that Assam is a melting pot of different ethnic groups, languages, and cultures. Assamese literature and culture have played a significant role in bringing people together under one umbrella. However, he emphasized the need for Assamese literature to be translated into other languages like English, Bengali, Telugu, and Malayalam to make it more accessible to a wider audience.

During the ceremony, Dr Singaiah presented the ‘Assamese Kala-Sanskriti’s Lifetime Achievement Award’ to renowned artiste Pawitra Pran Bora, felicitating his contributions to Assamese art and culture. Bora said that life without dedication is like a cotton flower without its beauty, emphasizing the importance of creativity, culture, and struggle in the field of language and art.

The ceremony included the release of a book of poems by Juli Hazarika, published by the West Golaghat Branch of Axam Xahitya Xabha. The event was attended by notable figures, including writers, artistes, and social workers. A painting and essay competition was also held for students, organized by the Kuhi Sub-Committee.
