NAGAON: Four police personnel including a Sub-Inspector of Kaliabor PS were injured during a police operation against a gang of cattle smugglers in the wee hours on Friday.    

According to sources, acting on a tip off, a team of police personnel from Kaliabor PS launched an operation in pursuit of a luxury vehicle suspected of being involved in cattle theft early on Friday morning at Kaliabor.

When the police vehicle approached, the suspected vehicle bearing registration number AS02FR5730, attempted to flee by ramming into the police vehicle. The police immediately chased the vehicle and eventually apprehended it on National Highway near Misa.

Although two cattle thieves managed to escape by jumping from the vehicle before police traced the vehicle, the police arrested one suspect, identified as Mumtaz Ali from Samaguri area. Besides, police recovered four cattle heads, one of which was found dead. Local residents reportedly assaulted the captured cattle thief at the scene.
