Dibrugarh: In a recent meeting at the district commissioner's office here, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar examined the first planning for the State's impending panchayat elections, according to a statement.
The preliminary planning for the panchayat elections in the four districts of Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, and Charaideo was the topic of the conference. Presentations on the initial planning for the panchayat elections in each district were given by the district commissioners of the four districts.
According to the release, superintendents of police, election officers, and other senior officials from the four districts in question attended the meeting, along with Dibrugarh district commissioner Bikram Kairi, Majuli district commissioner Ratul Chandra Pathak, Charaideo district commissioner Dr. Neha Yadav, and Sivasagar district commissioner Ayush Garg.
In a related news, the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department has released a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in order to reserve seats for SC, ST, and female candidates in the state's 2025 panchayat election.
The 2001 Census Report shall be used, in accordance with SOP, to determine the SC and ST populations at various PRI (Panchayati Raj Institution) constituency levels.
For SC, ST, and women, the state P&RD Department will reserve seats for the presidents and vice presidents of the Zilla Parishads, while the district commissioners will reserve seats for ward members, Gaon Panchayat and Anchalik Panchayat presidents and vice presidents, and Zilla Parishad members.
