CACHAR: Assam has taken a significant leap in its campaign against child marriage as the government declared four villages in Cachar district to be officially declared free of this practice. Villages Rukni Part IV, Bhairabpur Part I, Rosekandy Grant I, and Rosekandy Grant II had taken steps for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the success, stating that the state government was dedicated to ending child marriage and ensuring a better future for girls. On social media platform X, he expressed his delight, saying, "Assam has taken a firm stance against child marriage. We are putting the last nail in the coffin of this social evil across the State."
The Chief Minister further highlighted the role of these villages in setting an example for the rest of the state. "Leading by example, 4 villages in Cachar have been declared Child Marriage Free recently, ensuring a bright future for our girls," he stated on X.
This progress is seen as a crucial step in the state’s larger effort to prevent child marriages and promote gender equality, education, and empowerment for young girls.
The state government continues to focus on raising awareness and improving the enforcement of laws that protect children from early marriages.
