Guwahati: In an effort to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic, the Assam government has announced that it will offer free parking at the automated multi-level spots of Guwahati. The congestion of traffic on major roads of Guwahati has become bothersome for the people living in the city. This step taken by the government may mitigate traffic woes and relieve congestion in the city.

The news was shared by the Assam government on its official Twitter handle. The tweet read: "To ease traffic congestion in Guwahati and make parking hassle-free, the Assam Govt has decided to make parking free at the designated multi-level parking slots of the city."

The free parking will be available in two automated multi-level spots of the city - one in RG Baruah Road, near Shraddhanjali Kanan, and the other in MG Road, near MMC Hospital. This offer of free parking will be valid till December 31, 2021.

The government calls this initiative a "landmark step for easing commuting woes".

The government has also released a new set of SOPs earlier today. The curfew now begins at 9 pm every day and lasts up to 5 am. Inter-district public transport is now allowed to function with 100% seating capacity.
