NALBARI: Despite repeated assurances of 24-hour electricity supply, several villages in the Barbhag area of Nalbari district are reportedly facing prolonged and frequent power outages, causing growing resentment among locals.
Villages including Komarkuchi, Kotalkuchi, Raimadha, and Arangmou, which are connected to the Katpuha electricity sub-station, have allegedly been experiencing power cuts lasting several hours at a stretch. According to residents, power supply is frequently disrupted from around 4–5 am until 9–10 am, affecting students, household activities, small businesses, and other essential daily activities.
Residents further alleged that when they contact the Katpuha office to enquire about the outages, they are often told that there is a problem with the ‘main line.’ However, they claim that clear information about the reason for the disruption and the expected restoration time is often not provided.
Some residents have also alleged that, on certain occasions, the person answering calls at the office used inappropriate or abusive language while responding to their queries. Locals have also alleged that the SDO responsible for the area is often difficult to reach by phone.
The aggrieved residents have urged the Nalbari District Commissioner and the concerned State Minister to take immediate action.
