GUWAHATI: Assam is preparing to host over 10,000 tourists during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, a big step in making the state a popular travel destination.

Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass made the announcement, highlighting Assam’s remarkable tourism revival over the past few years. He mentioned that in 2023, the northeastern state saw 7.6 million domestic tourists and 26,000 international visitors. This is a big increase compared to the 8,000-10,000 foreign tourists it used to get each year before 2021.

The minister attributed this surge to improved infrastructure, enhanced security, and strategic tourism promotions that have positioned Assam as an attractive destination for travelers.

To highlight Assam’s beautiful landscapes and rich culture, the state government has launched helicopter services for summit attendees. These rides offer stunning aerial views of important attractions. “We want visitors to see Assam’s beauty from a new angle,” Dass said at a press event in Guwahati.

To accommodate the influx of guests, hotels, including five-star ones, have been arranged. The tourism department has also designed special sightseeing tours after the event to help delegates explore Assam’s nature and culture.

Assam’s tourism industry has seen a dramatic turnaround, overcoming years of struggle due to political unrest and frequent protests. With improved stability, Dass emphasized how the state has transitioned from a protest-prone region to an emerging tourism hotspot. He also underscored the government’s long-term strategy to leverage high-profile events like Advantage Assam 2.0 to drive sustained growth in the tourism sector.
