GUWAHATI: The disgraced officer-in-charge of the Ghograpar Police Station, Biman Roy, was Friday sentenced to four days in police prison by a lower court in Assam's Nalbari district.
The police asked for Roy's custody for five days when he was brought before the Additional District and Session Judge in Nalbari in relation to the complaint made against the OC for taking nude photos of a young girl inside the police station. Roy was transferred from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to Nalbari on Thursday after it was determined that his health was stable.
He fled the scene as soon as the young girl filed a complaint against him; however, the police later discovered him in a condition of unconsciousness near Panikhaiti Railway Station, and he was subsequently brought to GMCH.
The incident first came to light on June 26 when a young girl complained to the police about a police officer, saying he had taken vulgar images of her and had humiliated her in front of other officers within the jail.
On June 21, the victim girl is said to have allegedly eloped with her lover, but they were caught by the police and taken to Ghograpar PS. They were both kept that evening in the jail.
Biman Roy has been promptly sacked from Assam Police following charges of taking nude images of a girl inside the station. The dismissal was confirmed by Assam Police Director General of Police (DGP) G P Singh in a midnight tweet. Another incident recently comes to light that the infamous Ghograpar PS OC, Biman Roy, was detained in May 2017 on suspicion of corruption by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell.
As per reports, Biman Roy had been charged with requesting a Rs. 50,000 bribe. The anti-corruption agency detained Biman Roy in Guwahati, who was the former officer in charge of the Boko Police Station in the Kamrup district of Assam.
