Assam Girl Receives Prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar'23

GUWAHATI : One more feather added to the cap as Assam's young tabla maestro, Shreya Bhattacharjee receives the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. The ceremony took place on 23rd of January in New Delhi. 

Shreya with her magical skills blowed the minds of many across the globe. She is also known for playing the instrument for the longest duration of time. The Assam girl also got recognised at forums like the Cultural Olympiad of Performing Arts. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a piece of his interaction with the young tabla professional on Twitter. The PM appreciated her work and expressed his happiness on the interaction with her. 

In the picture posted on Twitter, Shreya is seen wearing the Assamese traditional sador-mekhela along with a flower garland on her bun. 

On 24th of of January, Smriti Zubin Irani had a chat with the children on their tremendous work in their individual categories. State minister Dr Munjapara Manhendrabhai was also present during the event. 

This year 11 children from varied fields were extracted as candidates for the award. Out of the 11 children, 6 were boys and 5 were girls hailing from eleven states and union territories. 

The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) is a government of India initiative to recognise achievements of children in varied fields. Children in the age group 5-18 years are presented the Puraskar for their achievements under six categories. 

These include, Art and Culture, Bravery, Innovation, Scholastic, Social Service and Sports. Each of the winners are given a prize amount of Rs 1 lakh, a certificate along with a medal. 

In 2022, 29 children were presented the PMRBP award, selected from all over the country. 

Recently, a boy from Assam's Dhekiajuli district has been selected for the National Bravery Award 2023. 13 year old Uttam Tanti with all his courage, rescued a woman and her son during a massive in 2019. Uttam was only 10 years old when the incident took place. He will be presented the National Bravery Award 2023 on the occasion of Republic Day, 26th of January.
