GOALPARA: The Goalpara Police Team, led by OC Baguan, recovered 14 vials containing suspected heroin from the possession of Adom Ali at Ambari, under Baguan PS. Legal action has been initiated against the alleged individuals.

In another similar continued effort to combat the drug menace, Goalpara police arrested a drug peddler from Mornoi during a search operation last year on December 26. Rafiqul Islam, a drug supplier, was apprehended with large quantity of narcotic tablets in his possession.

The police seized 1,450 narcotic tablets along with Rs 60,710 in cash from the arrested individual. The operation, aimed at curbing the drug trade in the region, has sent a strong message to those involved in illicit activities.

Meanwhile, Assam Police have foiled an interstate drug peddling attempt and arrested three narcotics peddlers, including one resident of violence-hit Manipur, on Sunday, officials said.

According to the police, the consignment of drugs was coming from Manipur, and the peddlers were trying to deliver it somewhere in the Goalpara district in Assam. However, the police foiled that attempt and seized contraband items.

An official said that the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police received prior information about the movement of narcotics in two vehicles. The police said that a vehicle was intercepted in front of Boko Police Station in the Kamrup district, and at least 30 packets of heroin kept in a bag were recovered.
