Assam Government Banned Single-use Plastic in all Government Offices in Bongaigaon

Bongaigaon: The Government of Assam, Environment and Forest Department vide notification no. ENG.1/2019/36 dated 10.07.2019 has issued some directions for imposing ban on manufacture, import, supply, sale and use of plastic carry bags/plastic sheets/multilayered packaging less than 50 microns, plastic cups with diameter less than 60mm and thickness less than 50 microns, short life PVC and all chlorinated plastic bags/sheets/banners/flex/buntings/flex irrespective of thickness.

The Government of Assam, with a view to ban single-use plastics and safeguard the environment against plastic waste, has decided to create awareness against the hazards of single use plastic and explore sustainable alternative.

Accordingly, the following stringent steps in the premises of all State Government offices of Bongaigaon district have been taken to curb single-use plastic in the offices - all types of plastic carry bags, packets and packaging materials less than 50 microns have been banned from the premises of all State Government offices of Bongaigaon district; single-use plastic, water bottles that generate plastic waste are not allowed in the office premises, including in the meetings and conferences, and instead multi-use bottles made of metal, glass, bamboo or any other materials are to be used in their place; water dispensers with paper cups are to be used for dispensing water in the meetings and kiosks ; plastic spoon, fork, cups, glass, cling film, ketchup/sauce or any other sachet, straws, plates are strictly not allowed in the premises of all State Government offices of Bongaigaon district and only alternate materials which do not cause serious harm to the environment may be used in their place; all materials made of thermocol have been banned in the office premises. This order has come into force with immediate effect.
