Assam: Government Official Caught Red-Handed Accepting Bribe In Bajali, Arrested

On finding sufficient evidence against the accused public servant, he has been arrested by the team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam.

BAJALI: A complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam alleging that Gaurav Shekhar Das, ACS, Assistant commissioner, Bajali of the office of the District Commissioner, Bajali had demanded Rs. 1,00,000 as bribe from the complainant in lieu of allowing hindrance free clay/earth cutting business of the complainant.

It may be mentioned that on being requested by the complainant, the accused officer reduced the bribe money to Rs. 50,000 from Rs. 1 Lakh.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant.

Accordingly, a trap was laid today by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam at the office of the District Commissioner, Bajali at Pathsala. Gaurav Shekhar Das, ACS, Assistant commissioner, Bajali was caught red handed immediately after he accepted Rs. 50,000 as demanded bribe in his office from the complainant. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly in the presence of independent witnesses.

On finding sufficient evidence against the accused public servant, he has been arrested by the team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam.

In this connection, a case has been registered in ACB Police Station on 05/03/2025 vide ACB P.S. Case No. 27/2025 under Section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

Necessary legal follow up actions are underway.
