GUWAHATI: Assam government has taken up steps to digitally bring transparency and dynamism in the educational scenario of Assam. The education officers will monitor the performance of contractual teachers through the newly launched app.

The Assam state government has come up with an idea to assess the government school teachers. 35,000 contractual teacher will have to appear and qualify an online assessment in order to keep their jobs.

A web portal was also inaugurated by State education minister Ranoj Pegu, on Monday. The contractual teachers under the Samagra Siksha Mission has to register their names in the portal for the review process. Their performances are going to be accessed through this online portal. 40% of the total teacher strength in elementary level is occupied by contractual teachers in government-run schools in Assam.

Ranoj Pegu stated in front of media that, the contractual and state pool teachers will have to submit their self appraisal reports online that will be accessed by the head teacher of the concerned school, block approval authority (BAA) and district approval authority (DAA). This is for the teachers who have cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).

The final process of assessment will be done by the state approval authority, who will then provide the final approval. He further mentioned that an agreement already exists with the contractual teachers about the assessment situation they will be going through. The minister talks about the irregularities of few teachers in the department and that the government is planning to take action against them.

During the assessment the teachers must explain their method of teaching, they will have to mention the classes they are engaged in, and explain the activities carried out in the online appraisal. Ranoj also said that termination of jobs may also take place if any kind of violation is seen in the agreement. As per reports, the policy stated that, a 50 mark assessment will be there in each level, following the final assessment will be an average mark out of 150. In cases where there is only one teacher in the school or the teacher holds the position of head teacher, the assessment will carry 50 marks at each block and district level. The total marks will be of 100 for this category teachers.
