NUMALIGARH: The Numaligarh Higher Secondary School, a prominent government educational institution in the Numaligarh area of Golaghat district, has witnessed an unprecedented surge in admissions this year. Despite the prevailing trend of parents opting for private English-medium schools, the institution has seen a significant number of students seeking admission. The school, established in 1963, has been a beacon of quality education in the region.

In the previous academic year, 1,065 students were enrolled in the school, with each class having 80-95 students. The school has a strong focus on extracurricular activities, including sports and cultural events, and has won recognition at the national level.

However, the school is facing difficulties in admitting all the students due to a shortage of teachers. The school’s Principal Mohen Saikia said that over 100 students had applied for admission to Class VI and appeared for a special evaluation test. The local people have appealed to the authorities to increase the number of teachers in the school to provide quality education to the students. “We urge the authorities to take immediate action to fill the shortage of teachers in our school,” said a local resident.

The school has also been awarded the ‘Green School Award’ in 2019 for its efforts in maintaining a clean and green environment. The school’s annual magazine, ‘Numali,’ has been published since 2002 and has won several awards.
