TINSUKIA: While some State governments like UP, Maharashtra etc have issued moratorium on transfer of employees except death, medical emergency, security etc during COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Assam is contemplating on another complete lockdown, the transfer order of as many as 38 officers of Assam GraminVikash Bank (AGVB) across the State created hue and cry among the transferees and their family members. The higher-ups of the bank directed the officers to resume their new postings before July 1 even as the State Government advised women employees with children of less than 5 years of age to remain indoors. Even if the transferees desired to join in their new postings, a serious problem would crop up in respect of their logistic support as house owners have started showing reluctance to let-out their premises for new tenants, some even seeking COVID test certificate from Health Department.

Meanwhile, Assam GraminVikash Bank Officers' Association in a letter to the Chairman of the Bank requested him to roll back the transfer order citing advisories from the Government. It also stated that many banks including SBI, Canara Bank etc have issued circulars putting dislocation/transfer exercise on hold for this year. It also urged upon the Chairman to act in consultation with the Association for smooth functioning of the Bank.
