KOKRAJHAR: In a speech during the current Budget session of the Assam Assembly, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya enumerated several initiatives of the state government to promote all-round development in Assam.

This session is a historical first, having taken place in Kokrajhar instead of the state's usual venue in Dispur. Governor Acharya indicated his joy in organizing the assembly in an area outside Guwahati, highlighting the fact that such efforts foster togetherness and enhance democratic principles. He characterized the session as an important chance to look back at Assam's progress, solve problems, and look forward to a bright future.

The Governor underscored the state's remarkable economic growth, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12.6% and a 25% rise in tax collection for the fiscal year 2022-23, with another 15% increase anticipated for 2023-24. He identified the major projects, such as a semiconductor hub in Jagiroad and a new fertilizer plant, as the driving force behind Assam's economic progress.

Acharya also marked significant accomplishments like the classification of Assamese as a classical language and awarding the UNESCO World Heritage tag to Charaideo Moidam. He spoke on different initiatives aimed at empowering women and youth, improving agriculture, health, education, and urban development, and balancing regional growth.
