
GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated the “Livestock and Poultry Expo-2025” at Khanapara on Sunday.
Organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, the event provided a platform for farmers and young entrepreneurs from across the state to showcase and sell their produce, with a focus on promoting self-reliance in the sector.
At the event, Governor Acharya emphasized the significance of expos in empowering farmers and entrepreneurs. He noted, “This expo is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the festivities of Bhogali Bihu, a celebration of abundance and prosperity.”
He emphasized India's advancements in the dairy sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting a 57.62% rise in milk production over the last nine years. He also noted that the country’s annual growth rate of 6% significantly surpasses the global average of 2%.
Governor Acharya praised the Assam government’s efforts toward creating a self-reliant state, especially through programs aimed at empowering farmers. He mentioned the “Assam Dairy Development Scheme,” which aims to achieve the production of 1 million liters of milk per day. “With the government’s unwavering commitment, Assam is on track to achieve self-sufficiency in milk production,” he added.
He encouraged the farming community to take full advantage of government schemes and contribute to sustainable development, aligning with the vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat. The Governor expressed optimism that the expo would inspire Assam’s youth to explore opportunities in livestock and poultry farming, driving the state’s progress toward self-reliance.
The event was attended by several key dignitaries, including Public Health and Engineering Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Krishnendu Paul, Assam Livestock and Poultry Chairman Manoj Saikia, Principal Secretary Manish Thakur, and Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Anil Ch. Deori.
The “Livestock and Poultry Expo-2025” seeks to strengthen Assam’s agricultural sector by fostering innovation, collaboration, and growth among stakeholders.
