Assam Govt Cabinet Expansion: Jayanta Malla Baruah, Nandita Garlosa Likely To Take Oath Tomorrow

Jayanta Malla Baruah, who is close to Assam CM, has been a two-term member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016 and from 2021 to present

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday asserted that two ministers will be inducted into his cabinet on Thursday.

According to reports, the two ministers will be Jayanta Malla Baruah and BJP legislator from Haflong, Nandita Garlosa who will take oath at Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra, Guwahati, on June 9.

''Not one but two ministers will be inducted at a function in Guwahati tomorrow and the both will be from BJP,'' he said while speaking to the media.

Jayanta Malla Baruah, who is close to Assam CM, has been a two-term member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016 and from 2021 to the present.

On the other hand, Nandita Garlosa was elected as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Haflong constituency in May after defeating Nirmal Langthasa of Congress.

Notably, last week, Sarma had said there would be a minor expansion in the cabinet ministry on June 9.

He had said that this time a new face would be added to his cabinet from the hilly regions of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

''On June 9 of this year there will be a minor extension in his cabinet where a face from the hilly region will get a place in the existing cabinet,'' he added.

Currently, there are 5 members from both the hill districts including Haflong's MLA Nandita Garlosa, Diphu's MLA Bidya Singh Ingleng, and Boithalangso's MLA Rupsingh Terang, Haoraghat's MLA Darsingh Ronghang and Bokajan's MLA Dr. Nomal Momin.

However, he didn't mention any specific name that who among these will be added.

Sharma led the government sworn in last year with 14 of his cabinet ministers and he has the liberty to still fill up 4 more members.
