Guwahati: Amid the ongoing weekend lockdown in Assam, the state's Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna via an order today permitted the movement of certain classes of people on working Saturdays to and from their places of work.

In partial modification of the order dated August 13 (Unlock 3.0 in Assam), Sanjay Krishna announced that the movement of the officials and staff of state/central government departments including PSUs and Autonomous bodies, as well as banks and persons on essential services, shall be allowed to attend their office duties from 5 am to 9 pm on all the working Saturdays across the state.

It needs mention here that aligning with the Centre's directives to 'unlock' the economy, the Assam State Government issued its Unlock 3.0 guidelines on Thursday (August 13).

Announcing the Unlock 3.0 relaxations vide a notification issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority and undersigned by Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, the Government stated its intention to continue with these revised rules which will stay in effect till 9:30 pm of August 31.

"All permitted activities mentioned in our earlier orders shall continue to be allowed between 5:00 am and 9:00 pm between Monday and Friday. Restriction of one side of the street is withdrawn," said the Chief Secretary in the order.

Weekend lockdown prohibiting movement of individuals at all times has continued to remain in place on Saturdays and Sundays. However, with today's medication, the employees of certain sectors shall be able to undertake journeys to and from their places of work.

Assam COVID-19 Update:

Assam reported 2,036 new coronavirus cases and four more deaths due to the virus on Thursday, August 27. With the detection of these new cases, the state confirmed cases tally has now mounted to 98,807.

Out of the fresh cases, 481 cases were reported in Kamrup (Metro), 146 cases in Jorhat district, 129 cases in Dibrugarh, and 110 cases in Hailakandi, informed the state's health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
