Assam: Govt Mulling To Reduce School Summer Vacations To 25 Days

Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu on Friday said the department is mulling reducing the number of days of summer vacations.

''From the coming year, summer vacations in the state will likely be reduced to 25 days,'' he said.

Following the floods in the state, the Assam Government on Thursday announced a summer vacation from June 25 to July 25.

However, since the summer vacation has been preponed by a few days, the school inspector of a few districts has decided to hold formal classes during summer vacation.

As per reports, the classes will take place in schools that performed poorly in this year's High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam.

The classes will be held for 9th and 12th standard in schools in districts like Golaghat, Chirang, and Tinsukia that didn't perform well.

The Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that the summer vacation in the schools usually starts from July 1st week but they have decided to prepone this time as most of the schools remain closed in several districts due to flood.

The education minister further said that the ongoing examinations will end by June 25 after which the schools will remain closed for summer vacation.

The minister also urged the private educational institutions to follow the same order for the convenience of the students as well as for the teachers.
