Guwahati: The vigilance and anti-corruption wing of Assam police apprehended another government officer for taking bribe on Thursday.

The officer was identified as Lohit Phukan who is deployed at the Inspector of Excise office in Assam's Golaghat district.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Assam Special DGP, GP Singh, said, ''The second action of the day. Our Relentless campaign against corruption amongst Government officers continues. Today, @DIR_VAC_ASSAM arrested red-handed, Sh.Lohit Phukan of office of Inspector of Excise, Bokakhat, Golaghat while accepting bribe money. Lawful action being taken.''

Notably, such cases are coming to the fore frequently and in one of these cases, in July this year, the vigilance and anti-corruption wing of Assam police also apprehended two state government officials red-handed while taking a bribe.

As per reports, in one of the incidents, the anti-corruption wing along with Morigaon police laid a trap and arrested red-handed Barsha Bora Bordoloi, district excise superintendent of Morigaon while accepting bribe money.

The said accused was arrested while demanding Rs 1 lakh from a person to provide a licence for a wine shop in the district. She was arrested while accepting the bribe after a complaint was lodged against her.

Similarly, in another operation by the anti-corruption wing, one Nabajyoti Sarma, dealing assistant office of the block elementary education officer (BEEO), Khuwang, Dibrugarh was held while accepting bribe money.

Meanwhile, a police officer was recently arrested for allegedly raking in money fraudulently in Assam's Darrang district.

As per reports, the accused officer was identified as Utpal Bora who is the officer-in-charge (OC) at Kharupetia police station in Darrang district.

Bora allegedly used to file fake cases against people in a bid to grab money from them.

Reportedly, he also demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a teacher and a doctor after filing fake complaints against them.

This was going on for a long time and eventually, his wrongdoings came to the fore following he was apprehended.
