GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has decided to award Rs 16,000 each to students who passed HSLC in the first division.

A total of 22,565 students will get the grant instead of the Anundaram Barua Award under which students got laptops.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (July 5).

Previously, the state government awarded the meritorious students with laptops under the Anundoram Borooah Scheme but this year, instead of laptops financial rewarded will be provided.

The minister also added that the amount will be credited directly to the bank account of the respective students.

The Cabinet also decided to hike the remuneration of chairpersons, vice-chairpersons and members of all local bodies. From now, they will get Rs 15,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 10,000 per month respectively.
