New Delhi: Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu has said that the state government has already started the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP).

In an exclusive interview with India Today, the Education Minister also asserted that the Assam government will organize a two-day North East Education Conclave in a bid to come out with a clear direction for the implementation of the new education policy.

The conclave is expected to held in Guwahati on November 20 and 21 will be attended by Vice-Chancellors of all Universities of North East, College principals, UGC chairman, chairman of All Indian Technical Education including Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

He also informed that by 2022, the Assam government will implement 75 percent while by 2023 it will be implemented by 100 percent.

"We have set a target to completely implement the NEP in the state by 2023. The school education will end in Class 12 under the new education policy, " Ranoj Pegu said.

Notably, on Wednesday, the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that steps will be taken to merge Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and SEBA by next year.

He further ordered to convert 1000 high schools into higher secondary schools in the first phase.

Beside this, in order to prevent dropout students from Lower Primary (LP) to Middle English (ME), he also directed that all LP and ME should be merged.

Reportedly on Wednesday evening, he also discussed various issues while reviewing the Elementary Education and and Technical Education departments in Guwahati.

The Assam Chief Minister also suggested that to fix post graduation as minimum qualification for the recruitment of middle and higher education school teachers.
