Assam Govt to pay over 1 lakh mid-day meal workers additional salary of Rs. 500 per month

Guwahati: As many as 119,000 mid-day meal cook cum helpers in Assam would be getting an extra Rs. 500 each month from the Government of Assam with effect from April 1, 2020. This is expected to cost the state exchequer Rs. 59.49 crores.

Making the announcement via Twitter, Assam's Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, " In addition to the fund allotted by GOI for Mid-Day Meal Cook-cum-helpers in the state, an additional amount of ₹500 each per month (total ₹59.49 cr) will be provided by GoA with effect from 1st April 2020. Happy."

Earlier, addressing the press here, Sarma said that the amount will be paid from April this year and the total sum till September would be deposited in the bank accounts of mid-day meal workers before the Durga Puja festival in 2020.

Sarma also informed that the State Cabinet has taken a decision regarding the 4,000 teachers who were appointed between 1991-2001 in primary schools without following the proper measures.

1,574 teachers, who had undergone training, would be employed as regular teachers beginning November this year while 2,960 others will be appointed as tutors.
