GUWAHATI: In a major development of increasing the employment opportunities in the education sector, the Assam government has announced to appoint 20,000 candidates as teachers.

On Thursday 17 February Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pego announced that the government of Assam will be appointing as many as 20,000 teachers by the month of May 2022.

This particular initiative comes under the 'Mission 1 lakh jobs' introduced by the Assam government.

The state government is committed to provide jobs to 20,000 candidates by filling up vacancies in different levels of education from lower primary (LP) level to Post-Graduate as well as Assistant professor.

The Education Minister informed that the advertisement of all vacancies has been already distributed and the process for appointment will start soon after the merit list is released.

The vacancies of teachers are available in Lower Primary level, Upper Primary, High Secondary, Post Graduate and Assistant teachers as informed by the Education Minister.

The document verification process is currently going on for the candidates in lower primary, upper primary and secondary schools.

The merit list is expected to be released soon and those listed in merit will be appointed. The appointment process will be completed by May 2022.

Pegu informed that the government has also started planning for the New Education Policy by the Centre issued in the year 2020.

He stated that the new education policy which is a wide framework for a new system of education has begun for implementation and it will take a long time to complete in stages.

As per the new education policy, the Directorate of School Education will be divided into 2 levels of education that is elementary and secondary. Colleges will be solely offering degree and postgraduate courses.

The government has also established a panel from the Social Welfare, Health, Tribal Affairs and Education departments with the objective to supervise pre-primary education along with nutrition and health of children.
