
GUWAHATI: In a significant security operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Guwahati recovered illegal firearms from a train passenger late on May 8, marking a major breakthrough in curbing the transport of illegal weapons via rail routes.
Acting on specific intelligence, a GRP team launched a targeted search in Coach No. H1 of Train No. 15909 DN Avadh Assam Express at Guwahati Railway Station. Following the search operation, the team seized two illegal 7.65 mm pistols and 40 rounds of live ammunition. The accused individual was identified as Jamir Hussain, son of Nur Islam, a resident of Khagarigan village under Thalamara police station in Sonitpur district, Assam.
Authorities have confirmed that legal action has been initiated and an in-depth investigation is underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized arms. This operation underscores GRP’s continued efforts to bolster railway security and prevent unlawful activities along critical transit routes.
Meanwhile, the Government Railway Police (GRPS) successfully intercepted a large consignment of suspected cannabis at Guwahati railway station on April 30 in a major fight against drug trafficking.
The operation, executed on platform number 1, resulted in the recovery of 65.5 kilograms of the illicit substance and the apprehension of four individuals involved in its transportation. The GRPS team, acting swiftly on credible intelligence, focused its efforts on Train No. 12423 DN New Delhi Rajdhani Express.
