GUWAHATI: The tranquility and calm atmosphere of Assam's Rangapara Colony Tea Estate was disrupted late Thursday evening as the reports of gunshots rocked the sleepy settlement, waking residents from their sleep.
The unprovoked episode occurred near the Joy Guru Temple, a location traditionally associated with spirituality and serenity, leaving the entire population in shock, terror, and grief.
The unfortunate victim of the shooting was a young man by the name of David Changa, who lived in the Hospital Line area of the tea estate. The shooting, according to initial reports, occurred at about 12:30 a.m., when a mysterious attacker went to Changa and shot him before disappearing into the night.

One woman, who resides close to where the attack occurred, described hearing the chilling ring of gunshots cutting through the quiet of the night. Her testimony, along with that of other witnesses, contributed to the immediate response from the Rangapara Police, who responded shortly after receiving the calls for help.
When investigating the scene for the first time, the police found an empty cartridge, which is suspected to be traced to the weapon used to commit the murder.
The authorities have since conducted a comprehensive investigation into David Changa's murder. The body of David Changa has been taken for a post-mortem examination to aid the process of gathering evidence.
