GUWAHATI: On Thursday 13 January an official informed that Assam Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi has been tested COVID-19 positive.

He is later admitted to Apollo Hospital located in Guwahati and is at present undergoing medical treatment as informed by the official.

According to reports, Professor Jagdish Mukhi was found infected with the covid virus on Wednesday 12 January following mild symptoms.

Governor Mukhi is under the supervision of a group of expert doctors from the GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital).

The official informed about the health status of the Governor saying that he is currently in a stable condition and recovering.

Prof. Jagdish Mukhi's wife has been tested negative after undergoing a covid test and she is reportedly staying at Raj Bhawan of Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted praying for the quick recovery of Prof, Mukhi and ensured for the best possible treatment for him.

In the last few days, there has been increase in the number of covid positive cases in the northeastern state of Assam.

As per the report till today i.e. Thursday 13 January a total of 3,274 fresh cases have been registered in Assam and among the tally, a total of 1138 cases are detected only from the Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam.

In the case of the number of deaths, Assam has recorded 4 deaths in the last 24 hours as per reports.

The positivity rate has increased to 6.56% in the state however the recovery rate is 96.96% at present.

Various new SOPs have been shared by the government of Assam on Sunday 9 January in view of the surge in COVID positive cases and to prevent the spread of the virus.

The government has extended the night curfew and put restrictions on various sectors including travelling, education and business in light of COVID cases and to prevent the new variant Omicron.
