Assam: Guwahati Police Nab Two Female Drug Peddlers with Large Heroin Haul

GUWAHATI: In a late-night operation on Thursday, Basistha police successfully apprehended two notorious women drug peddlers in the Khanapara area of Guwahati. The arrested individuals, identified as Padumi Gogoi and Niki Boro, are suspected to have played a significant role in the illicit drug trade within the region for an extended period.

During a thorough frisking, law enforcement officials uncovered a staggering 51 containers filled with illicit drugs, presumed to be heroin. The street value of this substantial haul is estimated to be worth lakhs, highlighting the magnitude of the illegal activities these individuals were allegedly involved in.

To address the severity of the situation, the police have registered a case against Padumi Gogoi and Niki Boro under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This legal action underscores the authorities' commitment to curbing the menace of drug trafficking and its associated criminal activities.

This incident follows a recent success by the Special Task Force (STF) in Hojai town, where a considerable amount of heroin was seized during a targeted operation. The confiscated consignment weighed in at 982 grams of suspected heroin, reflecting the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in tackling the drug trade. In connection with this seizure, one individual was taken into custody.

The collaborative efforts of various law enforcement units, such as the Basistha police and the STF, showcase a proactive approach to combating the drug epidemic plaguing the region. The series of arrests and drug busts underscore the need for a comprehensive strategy to dismantle the networks facilitating the production, distribution, and sale of illegal substances.

As authorities continue to tighten their grip on drug-related activities, these operations serve as a stern warning to those involved in such criminal enterprises. The community can rest assured that law enforcement agencies are actively working to create a safer environment by dismantling the foundations of the drug trade and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
