HAFLONG: Haflong, the queen town of Dima Hasao, came together in a solemn and heartfelt celebration to mark the 164th birth anniversary of Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore. Organized by the Ladies Welfare Association, Rabindra Jayanti was observed at the Ladies Welfare Hall on Friday, honouring the literary genius whose works continue to inspire generations.

The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by floral tributes to a beautifully adorned portrait of Tagore. Guests and members of the Ladies Welfare Association, along with students and children, paid their respects through soulful renditions of Tagore’s songs. The celebration also featured poignant poetry recitations, bringing to life the timeless words of Kabiguru.

Speaking on the occasion, president of the Ladies Welfare Association, Gopa Choudhury, highlighted the significance of Rabindra Jayanti and the enduring legacy of Tagore. She emphasized the importance of observing his birth anniversary with deep reverence, acknowledging his immense contributions to humanity through literature, philosophy, and art.

In her interaction with the media, Choudhury reiterated how Tagore’s selfless dedication to literature brought laurels to the country and enriched global thought. She expressed her belief that honouring his legacy serves as a reminder of the values of creativity, intellectual freedom, and cultural pride that he championed.

The commemoration of Rabindra Jayanti in Haflong not only celebrated Tagore’s life but also reinforced the spirit of artistic and cultural appreciation, ensuring that his legacy continues to illuminate minds and hearts.
