GUWAHATI: In a significant development, the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the deputation of Gyanendra Pratap Singh, IPS (Assam-Meghalaya cadre, 1991 batch), currently serving as the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam. As per the Ministry's letter dated January 19, 2025, GP Singh has now been appointed as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

He will serve at the DG level in Level-16 of the Pay Matrix on deputation until his superannuation on November 30, 2027, or further orders, whichever comes earlier. His release will be effective from the date he hands over his current responsibilities as DGP, Assam, and assumes the new role under the standard terms of central deputation.

Following GP Singh's release, Harmeet Singh, IPS (Assam-Meghalaya cadre, 1992 batch), currently serving as the Director General of Civil Defence & Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam, with additional responsibilities as Special DGP (Headquarters), Special DGP-cum-Director of Fire & Emergency Services, and Special DGP (Border), has been assigned to temporarily oversee the duties of the Director General of Police, Assam. This arrangement will continue until a regular appointment is made or further orders are issued.

The decision highlights the government’s emphasis on ensuring a seamless transition and maintaining the efficiency of law enforcement services in Assam and at the national level.
