SILCHAR: The headmaster of Radhamadhab Buniyadi School in the Kanakpur area here was suspended by higher authorities for carrying a machete to school.

The teacher identified as 38-year-old Dhritimedha Das has been serving as a teacher for more than 11 years now. Das is a resident of Silchar's Tarapur area.

The video of Headmaster Das carrying the machete went viral on the social media after which the police intervened and took him into custody.

Police has stated that back on Saturday, they received calls from the Radhamadhab Buniyadi School and soon rushed to the spot to take control of the situation. "The head teacher tried to hide the weapon and acted like everything was normal. But we noticed fear amongst the students and other teachers after entering the school," police said.

The Police further added that soon after they reached the school premises, they collected the weapon and asked authorities from the education department to initiate necessary action.

Though the exact motive behind the action of Das is yet to be known, however instilling fear among the teachers came up as one of the probable reasons.

Talking to the media, the Deputy Inspector of Schools of Cachar district, Parvez Neehal Hazari has stated that the Headmaster was angry at other teachers for certain irregularities. "There are 13 teachers in that school where the requirement is for only seven teachers. The head teacher thought of doing something like this to bring back discipline," stated Hazari.

As per sources, no official complaint has been lodged either by the education department or the teachers, however, Das has been placed on suspension.

So far, the accused Dhritimedha Das has refused to comment.

It needs to be added here that certain suspicious documents have been recovered from the possession of Das in the initial police investigation. As per the police, they have confiscated some notes in which the Headmaster blamed some for teachers is something happens to him. Not only this, but the police have recovered another note in which Das has reportedly said that he wants to kill four teachers.
