Assam: Heroin Seized By Cachar Police From Jirighat On New Year's Eve

JIRIGHAT: On New Year's Eve, the Cachar Police continued its crackdown on drug trafficking. An substantial amount of illegal drugs was found in an autorickshaw in the Jirighat neighbourhood of Cachar by a Cachar police team.

Lalmonsom Vaiphei, a suspected drug trafficker from Saimar Amur Punji hamlet in Jirighat, was captured by Cachar Police on Tuesday afternoon. 153 grams of a drug, suspected to be heroin, were found in Vaiphei's possession.

The suspected drug dealer was carrying 13 soap cases, which contained the stash of heroin. The Cachar Police team arrested the suspected drug peddler in front of two witnesses.

Vaiphei was travelling from Jirighat in an autorickshaw bearing registration number AS11CC 9149 when the police squad, acting on reliable information, intercepted him at Haokip Punji on Silchar-Imphal road.

In a similar case of a significant anti-narcotics operation, Cachar police seized Yaba tablets worth approximately Rs. 15 crore at Ghoongur Bypass. Acting on credible intelligence, authorities intercepted a vehicle from a neighboring state, uncovering 50,000 Yaba tablets hidden in five packets during a thorough inspection.

Two individuals were arrested in connection with the bust and are now in custody. The vehicle used for transporting the illegal drugs was also confiscated. This major crackdown highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region.
