Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates 2 cryogenic oxygen plants at Guwahati's GMCH

Guwahati: Amid the ongoing battle against the COVID-19, Assam's health, finance, and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated two Cryogenic Oxygen Plants at the GMCH Super Speciality Hospital in Guwahati city. These plants are expected to help meet the rising demand for oxygen at the hospital which is treating a bulk of the COVID-19 patients of the state.

India has the world's fastest-growing novel coronavirus epidemic and some of the hospitals have struggled to meet the rise in the need for oxygen due to a rise in the number of critical patients. In Assam also, the rise in the number of "critical" COVID-19 patients 

"Liquid oxygen tank is the most economical way of ensuring bulk supply of oxygen in hospitals. Today, at GMCH Super Speciality Hospital, inaugurated Cryogenic Oxygen Plant. Two such tanks have been commissioned today, each with the capacity of 20,000 litres (sic)," Assam's health, finance, and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted. The Minister also shared some pictures of the inauguration.

Later, addressing a gathering at the GMCH, Sarma spoke at length about the 4 key health schemes: the Assam state government's Snehasparsh, Assam Arorogya Nidhi, and the PM Modi's Atal Amrit Abhiyaan and Ayushman Bharat schemes.

He announced that there will be a special screening camp to identify children who need help under the 'Snehasparsh' scheme of the State Government. Sarma also said that under the Assam Arogya Nidhi, the Government of Assam has disbursed ₹25.45 crore to as many as 3,662 beneficiaries.

"Feel humbled to recall that during my tenure as Health Minister we could complete 7689 CHD surgeries, 5 liver transplants and 50 bone marrow transplants free of cost for children below 12 years," Sarma wrote in a tweet today, stating the success of the scheme meant specifically for children.
