
GUWAHATI: A team of Assam police successfully nabbed a human trafficking culprit who was hiding in Bangalore. The arrest was made on 19th February, Sunday. The arrested accused has been identified as Ohab Ali Khan aka Khan Bhai. Currently, he is inside the legal custody.
Police saved a woman of 27 years from Hailakandi’s Lalbazar area. The matter has been registered in Lala police station. Prior to the arrest, the concerned police department was thoroughly trying to resolve the matter. It is worth mentioning here that, Khan Bhai’s arrest was one of the most crucial breakthrough in the fight against Human Trafficking in Assam.
The OC of Lala Police station mentioned that a case was registered under IPC section 370, and the arrest was made based on the case. In January 2023, police initiated a massive search operation where three girls were saved from a suspected human trafficking plot in Dibrugarh district of Assam.
Based on certain information, police had initiated an intense operation at Lahowal Railway station located in Dibrugarh. The concerned department saved three girls and nabbed two boys. Along with that, police also seized an expensive car during the process.
As per the reports, the girls were sent to Bangalore in the name of offering job via train. The two arrested individuals were identified as Gunin Gogoi and Hemanta Gogoi. Women and girls are mostly trafficked for the purpose of economic as well as sexual exploitation, distinctly forced labour and prostitution, inclusive of work in commercial agriculture and domestic work, arranged marriages, or to be 'sold' as brides.
Human trafficking is a worldwide human rights issue that is denoted by exploitation through fraud and coercion methods. Even though boys and men are sufferers as well, the majority of trafficked persons pinpointed are girls and women.
