SIVASAGAR: The Sivasagar District Medicine Traders’ Association, established in 1987, held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in its journey. Coinciding with the AGM, the association formally launched a free-of-cost medical support service to assist financially weaker patients in the region.

Under this initiative, the association will provide essential medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators (oxygen cylinders), wheelchairs, air mattresses, and walkers, among others, to those in need. The service is intended to be available 24x7, completely free of charge.

This humanitarian effort aligns with the objectives of the current committee, formed in 2024, with Chandra Shekhar Sharma as President and Prachan Borthakur (Raja) as General Secretary.

Over the years, the Sivasagar District Medicine Traders’ Association has undertaken several developmental and welfare-oriented initiatives. Notably, as part of the golden jubilee of the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists, the association had entered the Guinness Book of World Records by organizing a massive blood donation drive involving approximately 88,000 units of blood. The programme, held at the office of Aoikya in Sivasagar town, was spearheaded by Sanjib Borpujari. The event was graced by the Working President of the All Assam Medicine Traders’ Association, Sanjib Kumar Bora, who shed light on various issues related to the profession and the role of medical traders in society.

As part of the ceremony, 15 senior members and contributors of the association were honoured for their past services. The individuals who received special felicitations were Rakheshwar Neog, Pradip Ranjan Baruah, Dilip Barthakur, Bijoy Kumar Agarwalla, Malchan Gatani, Kesor Dev Agarwalla, Ananda Kedia, Jagdish Agarwalla, Bhupen Neog, Pradip Chakraborty, Rajiv Goswami, Rajkumar Baheti, Putul Kakoti, Ratan Damani, and Jyoti Neog.
