MANGALDAI: In a major setback for the Congress party-particularly ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections-hundreds of Congress workers from Dalgaon LAC in Darrang district, once considered a Congress stronghold, have switched allegiance to the AIUDF.

The defection took place last Saturday and Sunday in the presence of AIUDF legislator Majibur Rahman, Darrang District President Habibur Rahman, and Organizational General Secretary Moinuddin Ahmed.

Welcoming the new members, legislator Majibur Rahman remarked, "Congress ruled for 75 years but failed to allot land to Muslims. Instead, they kept them under fear, labelled them D-voters, and subjected them to detention camps. The party never made a genuine effort to resolve Muslim issues but rather perpetuated them."

He further claimed that the AIUDF had achieved in four years what the Congress could not in seven decades.
