Assam: IED discovered at Digboi, diffused by Army personnel

Guwahati: In a sensational development, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was discovered by the 3 Garhwal Rifles personnel of the Indian Army at Bagapani in Assam's Tinsukia district, around 2 kilometres away from Digboi, on Wednesday. The bomb disposal team of Army has successfully diffused the IED.

After the discovery of the explosive device, army personnel reached the location and cordoned off the area from both sides. Later, a team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was also rushed to the site. Around 12 pm, a bomb diffusion squad reached the location from Dinjan and detonated the IED.

"In the morning we received information that a suspected IED was discovered by the 3 Garhwal Unit of the Indian Army. The 3 Garhwal Unit had cordoned off the area, and we cordoned the outer area so that the movement of civilians was halted. At around 12:45 am, the 3-kilogram weighing IED was destroyed and as per information, no casualties or damages have been reported", said Kuldeep Chaudhry, a CRPF jawan who was a part of the operation.

According to sources, the discovery of the explosive caused major traffic congestion in the area, leading to great inconvenience for the locals. The discovery of the device led to a situation of panic in the area, and army personnel informed that they have launched an investigation into the matter.
