GUWAHATI: According to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023 for Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and clean energy), IIT Guwahati is ranked sixth overall. These rankings are global performance tables that evaluate universities in relation to the UN-mandated Sustainable Development Goals.

IIT Guwahati has made noteworthy advancements in other SDGs in addition to its outstanding accomplishment in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7. While the institute's overall ranking rose to 401–600 in 2023, it now ranks among the top 200 universities for SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

Additionally, IIT Guwahati has proven its dedication to SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and 14 (Life Below Water), reaffirming its status as a top institution devoted to sustainability.

Taking on Twitter, IIT Guwahati announced, IIT Guwahati ranks 6th globally in Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and clean energy) of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023. These rankings are global performance tables that assess universities against Sustainable Development Goals as mandated by the @UN”

According to the official website of Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2023, “The only global performance tables that evaluate universities in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations are the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. To enable thorough and impartial comparison across four major areas—research, management, outreach, and teaching—we employ precisely calibrated indicators.

The fifth iteration of the Impact Rankings for 2023 comprises 1,591 universities from 112 nations and regions in the overall rating.”

Through a number of initiatives, IIT Guwahati has been actively pursuing sustainable development goals. The institute actively participates in offering community education programs and has taken steps to improve the energy efficiency of the campus infrastructure.

In addition, IIT Guwahati started the Green Campus Initiative, provided startup funding to help sustainable businesses get off the ground, started projects centered on sustainable water technologies, and helped to advance the creation of sustainable materials for trash recycling.

On the other hand, in March, the most recent edition of the most widely recognized university ranking lists Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati as one of the top universities in the world for the study of 14 subjects.
