SRIBHUMI: The Assam Police have foiled an infiltration attempt in Sribhumi district, arresting three individuals who were identified as Bangladeshi nationals on March 25. The apprehended trio were identified as Md. Hassan, Md. Alamin Mia and Md. Saiful Islam and they were deported immediately to their country of origin, reflecting the proactive approach of the state against illegal border crossing.

The operation was carried out effectively, with the authorities making sure that the infiltrators were repatriated immediately. The move reflects Assam's strong position on ensuring border security and preventing illegal entries into the state.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his appreciation for the police's efforts in combating illegal infiltration. He took to social media to commend the Sribhumi Police for their prompt and decisive action, stating: “@sribhumipolice continues its crackdown on infiltration, 3 Bangladeshi nationals apprehended. All of them have been promptly pushed back across the border. Good job @assampolice!”

Recently, the centre had notified the Supreme Court that 13 out of 63 Bangladeshi nationals held at the Matia transit camp in Assam have been successfully deported. During a hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing both the Centre and the Assam government, informed a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan that discussions are ongoing to repatriate the remaining illegal immigrants residing in Assam’s detention centres.
