This agreement marks a significant stride in fostering advanced research and educational exchange between the two institutions.
The MoU was signed by Dr Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, Principal of JBC, on behalf of the college, and Professor (Dr) Shun-Hua Wei, Senior Vice-President of NYCU, along with Professor (Dr) Chun-Li Lin, Dean of the College of Biomedical Engineering, NYCU. Porag Sarma, Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at JBC, and Professor (Dr) Wen-Chuan Kuo, Director of the Institute of Biophotonics, NYCU, signed as the official witnesses of the MoU. The process of MoU was coordinated by Dr Ankur Gogoi, Assistant Professor in JBC’s Department of Physics and Dr Guan-Yu Zhuo, Associate Professor in NYCU’s Institute of Biophotonics. Dr Ankur Gogoi was deputed by the college authority to hand over the duly signed MoU from Jagannath Barooah College to the authorities of NYCU during his academic visit to Taipei, where he attended the Focus on Microscopy 2025 Conference to present his research work.
Prof Chun-Li Lin of NYCU and Dr Ankur Gogoi of JBC have been appointed as liaison officers to ensure smooth and effective implementation of the agreement, which focuses on collaborative research in nonlinear optical microscopy and biophotonics.
The collaboration is particularly noteworthy given NYCU’s global standing. Ranked 219th worldwide, 47th in Asia, and 4th in Taiwan in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, NYCU is home to over 22,000 students, 7 national laboratories, and 75 research centers, underscoring its status as a leader in science and technology.
The MoU outlines key areas of cooperation including reciprocal study tours, student and faculty exchange programmes, joint development projects, and collaborative organization of academic courses, conferences, and symposia. It also covers the exchange of scientific materials and the joint publication of research, with room for other mutually beneficial initiatives.
College authorities have expressed optimism that this partnership will enhance the global footprint of JBC while bringing cutting-edge research opportunities to its students and faculty members.
