TEZPUR: The Mehbub Studio recently came alive with vibrant performances, dramatic dialogues, poetic recitations, and reflections on the remarkable journeys of renowned playwrights, actors, singers, and lyricists during the 16th edition of Natokor Din (Drama Day) which was organized by JB Production. The celebration showcased the rich legacy and cultural contributions of these artistic luminaries.

Eminent playwright, director, and writer Aisharjya Kakati, celebrated lyricist Bankim Sarma, and acclaimed artist Kumud Barua shared insights into their colorful and eventful journeys in their respective fields. The program, moderated by JB Production's publicity secretary Pankaj Barua, was inaugurated by noted artist Sacchidananda Bora, who lit the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Gopendra Mohan Das, the president of JB Production, welcomed the audience with an inspiring speech on the essence and impact of dramatic arts.

In his address, Aisharjya Kakati recounted his early days as a drama enthusiast and his deep influences from Nata Surya Phani Sharma and Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Lyricist Bankim Sarma reflected on his close association with stalwarts like Jayanta Hazarika and Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi, describing how these relationships enriched his journey as a lyricist. Artist Kumud Barua spoke of his unique and often challenging experiences in art and light direction over the years.

The audience was enthralled by mesmerizing musical performances by Anwesha Kanchan Bora, Kalpana Kalita, Ankur Gopendra Das, and Nupur Gopendra Das. Dialogues and dramatic songs presented by Mrigen Chandra Bora and Jitumani Devachoudhury, along with poetry recitations by Debabrata Sarma, captivated attendees across all age groups.

National award-winning actress and JB Production’s secretary, Jahanara Begum, shared the story behind the uninterrupted observance of Natokor Din on the first day of every year for the past fifteen years. She urged continued support for the organization’s mission and announced the revival of the Kironmoyee Bora Memorial Best Actress Award, which will now be conferred annually upon an outstanding stage or theater actress.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including retired professor and educationist Purneswar Nath, former president of Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti Charu Saharia Nath, educationist Sailaja Kumar Padmapati, retired judge and president of Asamiya Club Aruna Devi, and Manomati Kurmi, principal secretary of Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti.

Other notable attendees included children’s author Dilip Kumar Barua, vice president of Baan Theatre Bhabananda Das, general manager and actor Bhupen Sarma, and a host of distinguished actors and theater personalities, including Manoranjan Mahanta, Tilak Nath, Prahlad Talukdar, Achyut Sarma, Diganta Kumar Bhuyan, Pulak Kumar Deka, Ujjal Saikia, Biplab Sarma, Sashanka Bora, Munmi Bora, and Gautam Pathak. Musician Sanjay Krishna Gohain Barua and Simanta Kakati also added to the program’s artistic richness.
