GUWAHATI: The Maha Ambubachi Mahayog is scheduled to take place at Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati from 2:56 PM on June 22 to 3:00 AM on June 26. Tourism Minister Ranjit Dass chaired a review meeting on June 2. Final decisions will be made during a temple visit on June 9.
This year, the event moves beyond the traditional ‘Mela’ format, aiming for a more organised spiritual experience. Significantly, a ₹4.55 crore budget has been sanctioned for the Ambubachi Mahayog. However, 24 departments have been tasked with ensuring smooth conduct. Open-sole footwear like sandals is banned near the temple for security and sanctity.
Authorities are prepared for bad weather. The Pandu road may be closed if required, with two other paths kept open. If COVID-19 protocols return, they will be strictly enforced. Notably, no VIP or VVIP arrangements will be made as equal access for all devotees is the focus for this year's mela.
The Ambubachi Mela draws lakhs of pilgrims, sadhus, tantrics, and spiritual seekers from all over India and abroad. With its deep-rooted connection to Shakti worship and tantric traditions, the mela transforms Guwahati into a vibrant confluence of faith, mysticism, and devotion each year.
