DHEKIAJULI: The trilingual literary forum ‘Kanchiyoli, A Handful of Sunshine’ celebrated its seventh anniversary on Tuesday at the Borsola Tea Estate Model School Anganwadi Centre in Radhanagar Bagan, under Sonitpur district.
The programme began at 10 am with a tree-planting drive, followed by the main event at 11 am led by the publication’s Chief Editor, senior journalist and writer Polima B Chetia. The gathering featured literary discussions, educational activities, and community interaction. In the presence of students, parents, teachers, and members of the Kanchiyoli editorial team, Polima B Chetia inaugurated the ceremony by cutting a cake to mark the milestone. In an intimate conversation segment, writer Najmal Hussain Bhuyan spoke about the evolution of the publication and its contribution to the literary landscape of Sonitpur.
Speaking to the media, Polima B Chetia reflected on the forum’s origins, “During the dark days of the pandemic, Kanchiyoli emerged as a determined effort to walk together towards the light. In times when national identity is under threat, we must strengthen our language, literature, and culture through collective action. The writer’s community must take this responsibility. Today, we are reaching out to tea garden areas to inspire the younger generation to take an interest in writing. We hope Kanchiyoli will help elevate Assamese literature from these very communities.”
Headmistress of the school Hiranya Bhuyan praised the initiative, calling it “a meaningful contribution to education and literature in the area.”
The event was conducted by environmental activists Doli Das and Monmoyuri Das, with the support of journalist Bhaskar Lahkar, in the presence of Borsola Tea Estate Primary School Head Teacher Bishal Das and Assistant Grace Munda.
